NYCDOE Citizen Science Program LibGuide: Per-Session Information for Schools

This is the LibGuide for the NYC Department of Education Citizen Science program.

Per-Session Overview and Forms

The Citizen Science program team will compensate each participating Citizen Science teacher (2 teachers/school) with up to 18 hours of per-session compensation for time spent leading or planning their Citizen Science after-school club outside of regular work hours. This compensation will be paid out by the Citizen Science program budget.

To receive per-session compensation, all teachers must submit a resume and a completed OP-175 form via email to Sasha Ban at mban@schools.nyc.gov.

Citizen Science teachers may submit time sheets for Citizen Science per-session compensation beginning with the 10/1/19-10/15/19 pay period.

To ensure that their per-session payment comes out of the Citizen Science program's budget, each teacher must use the per-session sheet posted below to document all work. Specific directions for completing per-session forms for Citizen Science are available on this page.

Teachers who document over 18 hours of Citizen Science work should explore whether their school can fund additional hours that exceed the 18-hour cap.

A few helpful reminders about completing per-session:

  •          Make sure that you include your file number, and that you sign next to each pay period worked AND on the signature line at the bottom left corner of the page.
  •          All per-session MUST take place outside of regular work hours. You need to have at least 5 minutes of time elapse between the end of your regular work hours and the start of your per-session hours – e.g. if your work hours end at 2:30pm, your per-session cannot start until 2:35pm.
  •          Please round your time worked to the nearest quarter-hour (15 minutes).
  •          Please document only ONE pay period per time sheet. We cannot accept a timesheet that has two pay periods (e.g 12/1-12/15 and 12/16-12/31) on it.
  •          Policy for submitting late timesheets: You may submit a per-session timesheet up to one pay period late, but you cannot submit timesheets from two or more pay periods ago. For example, for the pay period ending 12/31 you could submit a timesheet for the 12/1-12/15 pay period, but you could not submit a per-session timesheet for the 11/16-11/30 pay period. We adhere to this policy because the DOE begins to charge interest on all pay periods that were completed more than 30 days ago.
